What is Competitive Soccer?
Competitive Soccer is sometimes referred to as Club Soccer or Travel Soccer. Players who are interested in a higher level of play try out in order to receive an invitation to join a club team. Competitive Soccer can be intense and not all of those who try out are guaranteed a place on a team. At the competitive level, we have many skilled and licensed coaches who provide structured and focused training. Our players may start as young as 5 years old up to 18. In Recreational Soccer, most games are played at our home field, Frances Ryan Park. For Competitive Soccer, teams will play against other competitive clubs in various fields around Southern California. Teams may also decide to play in tournaments out of state. In Recreational Soccer the length of a season is a few months, Spring and Fall. In Competitive Soccer teams remain together for an entire year.
SDSC Surf Escondido teams play in the SoCal league for the Spring and Fall seasons. In addition, teams may decide to participate in various tournaments, many of which take place during the summer. This includes two tournaments hosted by our club, the Dave Shelton Memorial Cup and the Kickin It Challenge.
