The SDSC Surf Escondido GU14 Black team is built on player development, character, and a genuine passion for the game. Nearly half of our roster has played together since the 2022–2023 Escondido Soccer Club All-Star season, creating a foundation of chemistry and friendship that continues to grow each year. Since then, we’ve welcomed talented new teammates to complete our 16-player roster, building a competitive team that values every player’s unique strengths and contributions.

Our philosophy is simple: develop the player before chasing the result. That commitment has helped our team grow from an All-Star program into a competitive Flight 1 girls soccer team while consistently competing in the top half of our league during each of our first three competitive seasons. Our best State Cup performance has seen us advance into the knockout rounds, but our greatest successes are measured by the confidence, growth, and love of the game our players develop along the way.

On the field, the SDSC Surf Escondido GU14 Black team emphasizes intelligent, possession-based soccer. We teach our players to build from the back, remain composed under pressure, and recognize the right moments to press aggressively as a team. While we utilize formations such as 4-2-3-1 and 4-1-4-1, our philosophy extends beyond systems. We develop complete soccer players by training every athlete in every position before helping them discover where their strengths are best suited. As Coach Jason Farran says, “Sometimes the position we enjoy contradicts the position we excel at.” A player may love scoring goals as a striker, but her greatest strengths may make her an outstanding midfielder, defender, or goalkeeper. That’s why we encourage every player to learn every position before settling into the role where they can best contribute to the team.

Development extends far beyond soccer. We believe our responsibility is to help shape outstanding young women who demonstrate integrity, accountability, leadership, and respect in every aspect of life. We expect our players to work hard in the classroom, support their teammates, treat opponents and officials with respect, and represent SDSC Surf Escondido with pride both on and off the field.

Our coaching staff is committed to creating an environment where every player is challenged, respected, and supported. Coaches Arran Chapman and Jason Farran emphasize technical development, tactical understanding, positive communication, and accountability while encouraging players to learn from mistakes and grow with confidence. Their goal is to develop complete soccer players by fostering teamwork, versatility, and a strong understanding of the game, while helping each athlete become a responsible leader, a supportive teammate, and a person of strong character. Together, they strive to uphold the SDSC Surf Escondido mission of developing well-rounded athletes with integrity, respect, and a lifelong passion for soccer.

Perhaps the greatest strength of our team is the culture we’ve built together. Our players genuinely support one another, celebrate each other’s successes, and have formed friendships that extend well beyond the soccer field. The same positive culture exists among our families, who create a welcoming environment for every player, and family, who joins our team. Rather than appointing permanent captains, we believe leadership should be learned and shared, giving every player the opportunity to develop confidence, accountability, and a voice within the team.

Every player’s journey is different. Whether a player’s dream is to compete in high school, pursue college soccer, play professionally, or simply enjoy the game at the highest level possible, our mission is to help each athlete achieve her own goals while creating memories and friendships that last a lifetime.

Players interested in joining the SDSC Surf Escondido GU14 Black team are welcome to attend training sessions throughout the year. While official club tryouts are held annually, we believe the right player can strengthen our team at any point during the season whenever roster space is available. We also welcome guest players when opportunities arise, allowing players to experience our training environment and team culture firsthand.
